African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights
The African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights (ACHPR) receives mandatory reports from State Parties every other year regarding the measures that each State Party has taken to give effect to the tenets of the ACHPR. The Commission also receives communications from individuals or NGOs regarding violations of the ACHPR by State Parties. These communications may be anonymous, but domestic remedies must still be exhausted. Like the IACHR, this Commission only makes recommendations. The African Court on Human and Peoples Rights may receive complaints submitted by the Commission, African Intergovernmental Organizations, or ACHPR State Parties which have ratified the Protocol to the ACHPR on the Establishment of an African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights. NGOs with observer status before the Commission and individuals from ACHPR State Parties which have made a Declaration accepting the jurisdiction of the Court can also initiate cases directly with the Court.
